Laurel Delaware Real Estate Listings for Townhomes, Homes and Condos

Founded in 1683 and incorporated as a town in 1883, the word history is synonymous with Laurel, Delaware. The town is home to more historic buildings than any other town in the state. It was plotted in 1802 after the sale of an Indian reservation. In 1899, an overturned kerosene lamp destroyed the entire section of the north side of Market Street which spurred the organization of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department later that same year. Laurel is not only a town of history but one of natural beauty. The town was named after the lovely laurel trees that grew along Broad Creek. Beautiful cypress trees can be seen at the popular Trap Pond and Trussum Pond. Not only are these spots popular with the local ornithologists, but also with those looking to fish, canoe, boat, kayak, and camp. Bicyclists and horseback riders are also frequent visitors. A comparatively small, quiet town, Laurel has a plan for future development with the hopes of attracting more business to the community.
